About Luke

My name is Luke Charbonneau and I am your candidate for Deputy Mayor of Saugeen Shores in 2010.

As a member of Council since 2006, I have had the opportunity to serve the community in a number of roles;

Director - Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority 2006-2010
Member - Municipal Heritage Committee 2006-2008
Council Representative - Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce 2006-2008
Chair - Community Improvement Plan Committee 2008-2010
Member – Port Elgin Business Improvement Area 2008-2010
Member – Saugeen Shores Marketing Focus Group 2009-2010

While on Council, I have worked to ensure that our municipal government has continued to make responsible investments in Saugeen Shores.

I have advocated for municipal projects and policies that support small businesses through revitalization of our commercial core areas and through redevelopment of our branding and marketing strategies.

I have supported infrastructure projects that have enhanced the aesthetic beauty of our community and others that have improved the functionality of our road, water and sewer networks.

I have worked on heritage projects intended to highlight some of the many features that make our community such a wonderful place to live in and visit.

As a co-owner of Hi-Berry Farm, I have accumulated years of first hand experience with the realities of running a small business in our local economy. Most recently, in my role as a small business owner, I was appointed to the Saugeen Shores Business Enterprise Center Advisory Group.

As a new (and proud) father, I want to be a leader in securing our community’s future success so that when my son grows up he will have an opportunity to live and raise a family in Saugeen Shores.

To that end, I want to lead our municipal government toward taking a more proactive role in our local economy.

As Deputy Mayor, I will encourage Council to take a leadership role in the future economic development and ongoing improvement and revitalization of our community.

At the same time I will remain committed to keeping property tax increases in check so that our local residents continue to have the disposable income necessary to drive our local economy.

This website highlights my priorities for the coming term of Council.
